Population Estimates Show Kansas City with Most Residents in State
A
ranking of city population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau
shows Kansas City as the most populous city in Missouri and the 39th
most populous in the country last year. With a population of 447,306
in 2006, Kansas City experienced the largest increase in the state
with nearly 3,000 more residents from the previous year.
Other Missouri cities with large increases were O'Fallon (2,850),
Wentzville (2,670), Columbia (2,516), and Lee's Summit (1,683).
St. Louis ranked 52nd in the country in population, with 347,181 residents, despite having the largest decrease in the state of nearly 5,400. The next largest decrease occurred in Independence, which lost over 600 residents.
