Kansas City and St. Louis MSAs Per Capita Personal Income Rank High in the Nation
The Kansas City and St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) ranked in the top 65 in per capita personal income among the 363 MSAs in the country. St. Louis ranked 61st with per capita personal income of $39,602 in 2007, while Kansas City ranked 63rd in the U.S. with per capita personal income of $39,402.
Each of Missouri's seven MSAs had
an increase of at least $1,000 from 2006-2007, with St. Louis
experiencing the largest increase ($1,950), followed by Kansas City
($1,836), St. Joseph ($1,687), and Jefferson City ($1,365). The U.S. had a
$1,918 increase and the metropolitan portions of the country combined averaged
a $1,972 increase.

The St. Joseph MSA ranked the
highest in percentage increase among the Missouri metros and 62nd in
the country with a 6.0 percent increase. St. Louis MSA was next with a
5.2 percent increase, followed by Kansas City (4.9%), Jefferson City (4.5) and Columbia
(3.9%).
Nationally, per capita personal
income rose 5.2 percent. Pascagoula, MS MSA had the
largest increase with a 17.2 percent rise from
2006-07.
This upward trend in per capita personal income growth is seen along the gulf coastal region affected by Hurricane Katrina, with the top five highest growth rates occurring in this area.
The highest per capita personal income was in the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, CT MSA with $80,192. Other MSAs with high income were Naples-Marco Island, FL ($61,788), San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, CA ($61,337), San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA ($58,716), and Sebastian-Vero Beach, FL ($58,144).
